During firing, certain crystals formulated in the glaze literally burst under the action of the heat. The result is a unique blooming on the surface, creating visual textures, subtle craters and plays of light that are physically impossible to replicate twice.

Added to this phenomenon is natural crazing. That fine network of lines that appears beneath the glassy glaze is not a defect or a sign of fragility; it is the undeniable proof that the clay and the glass have expanded and contracted at different rates, leaving the mark of their passage through the kiln.
